Welcome from Ms. Maura Bradley, Principal
Dear Families,
Thank you for choosing Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Mission Grammar School. Your choice of a Catholic education speaks to your commitment to educate your whole child, intellectual, emotional, social, and spiritual. Planted in our Catholic roots, we will help your child grow in a learning community celebrating the word of the Gospel.
Beginning in K2, Mission Grammar SCHOLARS are emerged in an intense language arts model. Working from the latest publication of Scott Foresman Reading, children in grades K2-3, focus on fluency, phonemic awareness, comprehension, and vocabulary. Our youngest Scholars benefit from small group instruction, allowing for individual growth. All scholars are individually assessed, allowing teachers to track individual progress. Working with our reading specialist and Title One lab manager, scholars receive tailored instruction, either extra help or challenge work.
As scholars move into grades 4-8 they work to grow as independent learners. With the goal that all graduates enter admission into a Catholic, independent, or exam school, scholars work closely with personal goals. Scholars are encouraged to apply to such programs as Stepping Stones. Recent graduates have gone onto Boston Latin, Latin Academy, Milton Academy, Mount Saint Joseph, Cathedral High School, North Cambridge Catholic, and Newton Country Day School.
School wide, all scholars receive weekly instruction in Peace Games, a partnering organization dedicated to ending the escalating trend in violence by teaching children to become peacemakers. Scholars complete yearly service projects linking their peacemaking skills to action. Religion instruction is an integral part of daily instruction. Children in grades 3-8 complete Values, a course in moral decision making. Under the direction of the school prayer team, we begin each day with prayer and song. Monthly mass as well as weekly prayer services celebrate the teachings of the Gospel.
Located in the Longwood Medical and Academic Area, Mission Grammar benefits from partnerships. Mission Grammar is a partner school of Emmanuel College. This relationship links scholars to many opportunities; academic, cultural, and athletic. Specifically, this year scholars were guests to honored speakers, South African Prince Cedza Dlamini and Martin Luther King III. Mission Grammar scholars form relationships with college volunteers in the capacity of enrichment classes and tutors.
Upon admission to OLPH Mission Grammar School, you will enter into faith based learning community committed to celebrating the gifts of your child. I look forward to meeting with you. Again, thank you and welcome to a school community dedicated to nothing less than Unity in Diversity, Excellence in Education, Since 1889.
Peacefully,
Maura M. Bradley, Principal
